One of the most powerful elements of group is the knowledge that while you may not know everyone's story, you know they have a story. This understanding creates connection and an opportunity for safe vulnerability that allows growth to happen. Teens are so brilliant and full of wisdom; cultivating an opportunity for them to share it with each other is such a gift.
The group approach is an effective way to engage teens in critical self-management and self-reflection skills. Participants will be identifying a primary emotion that tends to overwhelm or create an obstacle for them in their life. Skills based in DBT and ACT will help them explore what to do with these strong emotions, as well as understand what the real need is that drives emotion and behavior. Art therapy creates support of non-verbal communication, access to inner wisdom through healthy use of projection via image, safe risk taking, trusting the self, and the use of materials at metaphor.
Teen Groups will resume in September on Tuesdays at 3:00pm. Check back for more information this fall.
If interested, please fill out a contact form with the subject Teen Group. Participants will partake in a brief screening prior to the start of group to make sure it is a good fit for them. Groups are limited to 12 participants and subject to public health safety protocols.
